VERA ELDRIDGE 1921 - 2015 Vera Eldridge passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital on January 24, 2015 at the age of 93 years. Her loving memory will be treasured by her son Ted (Jane) Eldridge and her grandchildren Josh, Drew and Joey. Many nieces and nephews, along with extended family will also cherish the memories of their Auntie Vee. Vera was predeceased by her father James, mother Edith, sisters Ivy and Barbara, and brother Art. All of Vera's friends will hold a special place in their hearts for this wonderful lady. Vera was born in England (Brentwood-Essex) and arrived in Canada (Winnipeg) with her family in 1924. Throughout her working life she had many occupations, some of which were: office worker (Father's Shop), butcher assistant (Eatons and The Bay), hair dresser, cookie and candy sales (Zellers), supervisor (MTS), sales (Singers), button dyer (Groff's), member helper (YMHA) and secretary (AMP-Tyco). Vera found great enjoyment in writing poems, reading tea cups, dancing and sewing. Family and friends meant the world to her. She bowled into her 90s, having so much fun with her "carry on" friends at the Academy Bowling Lanes. Vera asked that the following message be left to all those she loved, "Tell everyone to hug each other for me...thank you for helping to make my life so wonderful". As per Vera's request she will be cremated and her ashes will be held until scattered by her son Ted in a special place at a special time. There will be a celebration of Vera's life in the summer of 2015, family and friends will be notified. Donations to the memory of Vera can be made to a charity of choice.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • We didn't see Vera very often, but she was always such a welcome, wonderful addition to the Reimer family gatherings. We will remember her so fondly. - Posted by: Leslie & Lois (Family) on: Feb 07, 2015

  • Condolences to Ted, Jane and family. Auntie Vee will be remembered for her kindness, cheerfulness and interest in everyone around her. Family gatherings have lost a key participant. What's a Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas dinner without her? Memories of her are everlasting. Barbara - Posted by: Barbara Frost (Chris' sister) on: Jan 29, 2015

  • I was a neighbor of Vera's and always loved seeing her - she always had a kind word and a "God bless you" for each time we met. Will miss her calm, spunky and humorous outlook on things. - Posted by: M. Loreque (neighbor) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • We have lived next door to Vera for over 10 years. She was the first one to welcome us to the building when we moved here. She was the best neighbor one could ask for and became a good friend. We are going to miss her. Our condolences to the family - Posted by: Anne & Jerry Simundson (Friend and Neighbor ) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • Grateful for so many memories we shared together. At age 3 she had me sewing on the floor with her machine - one hand on the foot pedal the other on the fabric. Loved all her stories! I took Auntie for Lobster dinner when I was worked in Gimli in the 70's. She had no clue how to get to the tasty parts out of the shell. I was in stitches with the conversation and antics that went hand in hand with this. I finally had her enjoying her meal, not without her sending a couple of pieces flying to other tables to sample. She always made me laugh. Grateful to see her last summer! A rare unique person, with her heart in the right place! I will miss our chats.... - Posted by: Marlene Valgardson (Niece) on: Jan 28, 2015

  • As one of many "bowling buddies", I just want to say how dear Vera was to all of us. She was a personality all her own - loved and admired by everyone. Happy bowling, Vera. Margaret Taylor - Posted by: Margaret Taylor (Friend) on: Jan 27, 2015
